What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate per 100,000 females due to breast cancer. |
| Why this is important: According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death and the second most common type of cancer among women in the U.S. The greatest risk factor in developing breast cancer is age. Since 1990, breast cancer death rates have declined progressively due to advancements in treatment and detection. The Healthy People 2020 national health target is to reduce the breast cancer death rate to 20.6 deaths per 100,000 females. |
