What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the percentage of children who are ready for kindergarten according to the Early Childhood Observation System (ECHOS). |
| Why this is important: Kindergarten screening gathers information on a child's overall development and specifically addresses the readiness of each student for kindergarten based on education standards. The standardized screening measures seventeen expectations for school readiness, including immunization status, physical development, compliance with rules, communication skills, interactions with peers and adults, demonstration of curiosity, ability to pay attention, and ability to follow directions. Kindergarten screening is used to give kindergarten teachers instructional information about the group of children entering their class. |
| Technical Note: The distribution is based on data from 67 Florida counties. |
