What is this Indicator?
This indicator shows the rate per 100,000 population of arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). |
| Why this is important: Drivers with a blood alcohol content (BAC) above the national legal limit of 0.08% are guilty of driving under the influence. Motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver kill 32 people in the United States every day. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $51 billion. There is strong evidence supporting the effectiveness of sobriety checkpoints as a public health intervention to reduce the harms associated with impaired driving. In 2008, 11,773 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one-third of all traffic-related deaths in the United States. |
| Technical Note: The distribution is based on all 67 Florida counties. |
